The decision to seek a counselling therapy, approach and therapist is not often an easy one but once taken it marks a real commitment to care for yourself alongside a willingness to be met by and engage with often different emotional aspects of yourself and emotional world.
Counselling therapy provides a unique kind of relationship, it is a regular, safe and exploratory space for you with support from myself to develop deeper understanding of meaning until you are able to meet your dilemmas or troubles with more clarity and resilience.
The aim of our work together would be to develop insight into your symptoms, mental narratives, repeating patterns or struggles in a compassionate yet inquisitive manner, these issues can often play out either in relationships or in self defeating behaviours, causing havoc for us in our day to day lives.
I am an experienced and passionate psychodynamic counselling therapist and DIT practitioner and whilst my work is largely psychodynamically informed and supervised, if needed and more suitable I am able to be guided by other counselling principals, including CBT techniques, solution focused techniques, ACT techniques and behavioural activation (which is a NICE recommended intervention for depression).
My work varies client to client, I offer short and longer term psychotherapies to adults on an individual basis, who may be suffering with a range difficulties/ presentations including depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, adverse childhood experiences, relational difficulties past and present, work related issues, substance abuse, as well as other problems and challenges.
17+ years of working in primary care mental health services has refined my ability at assessing individual needs and deciding collaboratively with you the client how we can best work to meet your needs and goals.
My therapeutic area of interest is working with unconscious processes in individuals, teams, groups and the concepts underpinning the psychoanalytic approach, my private work is supervised and I attend CPD events, the most recent *Trauma from a DIT perspective 2023
