For many years I worked in retail and hospitality, never feeling fulfilled. At the back of my mind I knew that I really had a strong desire to help people and so I eventually decided to re-train as a counsellor whilst also maintaining the ‘day job’. It has taken a long time but spending time volunteering for various mental health charities has only served to confirm that to me, there are few things more important than connecting with a fellow human being and working with them to affect a positive and healthy therapeutic relationship.
