Do you feel sick thinking about that upcoming social event and just know you’ll lie awake afterwards worrying about what you said/did? Maybe you feel alone when you’re surrounded by people. Like no one really “gets” you, and you’re not sure you really “get” yourself. Are you torn between wanting to be with people and needing your own space? Perhaps it feels like there’s a giant canyon between what you want to do and what you find yourself doing, or that your day-to-day reality is nothing like you imagined life would be. If you feel stuck, wondering if this is all life has to offer, counselling can help you to find new confidence in yourself and your relationships, so you can experience more of the goodness life has to offer.

Call or email me to find out more about how counselling can help you.

Counselling has the potential to transform your whole life for the better. For example:
* You will get to know yourself better, and find new confidence in who you are and the decisions you make.
* New tools and strategies for clear communication will allow you to connect more fully with the important people in your life and stop feeling so alone.
* The pressure of anxiety weighing down on you will be reduced, so you can find renewed hope and purpose for the future and enjoy life again.
I know it can feel scary or “wrong” to reach out for help. Clients often tell me that taking the step to have counselling has changed their lives. It can change yours too. You are worth the investment.

In my years as a youth worker, I witnessed teens struggling to know who they really are, one of many challenges of growing up, and saw the impact on parents and other family members. In my own experience, this search to understand ourselves doesn’t end when we reach adulthood, but is something we continue to work on and grow into. In my time as a counsellor, I have worked with many adults, as well as young people, struggling with questions and anxiety around their identity, how to connect with others, and how to live the life they want. I love being able to support people in learning to understand, value and express themselves with confidence and assertiveness, so they can embrace more of life. My work with couples often involves supporting them in working out how to best express their individual identities within the context of a long term relationship.

I chose to train in a Christian faith based counselling model because my faith is important to me. I have additional training and experience in working with a range of faith and spiritual issues with those clients who wish to include these elements in their counselling. I enjoy working with people of Christian faith, other faiths and no faith.

  • Qualifications & Experience
In my foundational training I achieved an Advanced Diploma in Christian Counselling. I am trained and experienced in working with spiritual and faith issues when this is important for the client, whether that be Christian-based spirituality or a wider spirituality. I enjoy working with clients with a Christian faith, other faith or no faith.

Although my foundational training focused on working in-person with individual adults, I came to counselling from a career in youth work and enjoy combining my knowledge, skills and experience in offering counselling to teenagers too. I have a Level 5 Certificate in Counselling Young People. I also have training to work with couples.

In 2020, during the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, I moved my counselling practice online and worked to gain a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling. Although many of my longer term clients have chosen to return to in-person sessions, and many new clients opt for in-person sessions, I continue to provide online and telephone counselling to clients in England and Wales who prefer this. Some clients like the option to move online occasionally when needed.

In order to keep my knowledge, understanding and skill current and relevant, I engage in regular training on a range of counselling-related topics. Some of the training I have attended includes subjects such as toxic relationships, creative counselling, attachment, disordered eating, self-injury and anxiety, plus many others.

I have worked within agencies and in private practice with a variety of clients since 2008. Each client has their own story and so I aim to provide an individual service depending on what it best for them, integrating different counselling approaches as relevant and helpful for each client.
